Most cities including England and Wales call for 100 amps as standard in Modern or upgraded electrical supply system, but it is not uncommon to see 60 amps or 80 amps as the cut out fuse.
With the ever increasing demand for Electric Vehicle charging point, we recommend 100amps especially in modern homes. This also gives you some space for future additions. This is not a job for an unlicensed person to attempt. Most energy supplier will charge you for the electricity you use. There are many things you can do to help save electricity and reduce your bill.
For example:
- Electric hot water tanks are less efficient than gas ones, if you have an older electric water heater then consider an upgrade.
- Monitor your electricity use; turn off lights and devices when you are not using them.
- Change your light fittings or lamp to a more energy efficient Light bulb like LED.
- Replace light switches with motion detector/PIR in utility rooms, car Park, outdoor or communal area to automatically turn light on and off.
- Try to use natural lighting whenever possible.
- Take shorter showers.
- Minimise electric cooker run time.
- Fit thermostat to heating system.
- Change old incandescent lights, older fixtures and appliances to newer more efficient ones.
